“When I think of Jeff so many things come to mind but his open heart and good nature is what I remember the most. We traveled together a lot over the years having the same sponsors and a great connection as friends. Aside from the riding our time on the road was spent lost in conversation expressing our feelings about anything that was on our mind. He often looked to me for advice on our trips, and I did the best I could to help. I guess he looked up to me as a rider, but it’s always been a mutual thing. This brings me to my story.

My earliest memory of Jeff is one I’ll never forget. I remember going up to Mammoth on one of my first snowboard trips with the Volcom crew. It was “pre-park Mammoth” a time when standard grooming was the only enhancement the mountain saw and every snowboarder on the hill knew each other. Jeff and Billy were our tour guides, they were raised on the mountain and knew it better than anyone. I followed them down the mountain dissecting every hit possible revealing features I never would have noticed on my own. It was sick, everyone was having a blast hitting jumps & cliffs, throwing down tricks. We took another run and they just bombed the mountain, mach speed… I was terrified trying to keep up with them; it was the fastest I’d ever gone on my board. I was totally humbled by the experience and was trembling with fear. After the session I couldn’t stop thinking about how comfortable they were at high speed and the control and confidence they had at such a young age. They grew up on snowboards and were some of the most solid riders I’d met, earning my respect and admiration for life.”
